Emergency Medical Services Training

Yale-New Haven Hospital operates the New Haven Sponsor Hospital Program which, in addition to providing medical direction for the EMS system in Greater New Haven, also provides a number of emergency medical services education programs.

First Aid and CPR certification

The New Haven Sponsor Hospital program provides American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification and re-certification courses every other week. It is a four-hour class for all levels of health care providers. Once per quarter we also provide a four-hour AHA certified first aid class.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification

An emergency medical technician (EMT) is an emergency responder trained to provide emergency medical services (EMS) to the critically ill or injured. This certification course is approximately 145 hours and is approved by the State of Connecticut Office of Emergency Medical Services and leads to national registration and state licensure. Classes are held either two days per week or evenings.

Paramedic certification

The New Haven Sponsor Hospital Paramedic certification is a State of Connecticut-approved educational program and is based on the current National Standard Curriculum for paramedic training. The program has two formats: the evening program begins in January and the day program begins in September. Each is made up of didactic sessions, hospital clinical rotations and field internship.
