A Mother's Place moves to Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital

A Mother's Place

"A Mother's Place," a maternity boutique formerly located at 300 George St., celebrated its recent move to Suite 1005 of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital with a ribbon-cutting/open house event on Friday, Dec. 13. On hand for the festivities were, from left, Michael Bennick, MD, Medical Director, Patient Experience; Cynthia Sparer, senior vice president, operations; Susan Maxwell, RN, director of nursing and women's services; Cecilia Keyes, Coordinator, A Mother's Place; Hugh Taylor, MD, Chair of Ob/Gyn and Reproductive Sciences, Yale School of Medicine; and Steven Fleischman, MD, Associate Chief, Department of Ob/Gyn. The shop features breastfeeding supplies and support to breastfeeding mothers as well as clothing, books, jewelry and accessories.

YNHH sponsors two post-Christmas blood drives

During the holidays, blood supplies drop significantly, so donating blood becomes even more important. A pint of blood can save up to three lives. To help the American Red Cross ensure a safe and secure supply of blood, Yale-New Haven Hospital will host two blood drives in late December.

On Friday, Dec. 27, the York Street Campus will host a blood drive at 55 Park Street from 7 am - 6 pm. For an appointment, please contact Lonnie Avery, tissue and transfusion safety officer, Blood Bank Laboratory, (203) 688-8425 or lonnie.avery@ynhh.org.

On Monday, Dec. 30, the Saint Raphael Campus will host a blood drive in the Allspice Café, 9 am - 1:45 pm. To schedule an appointment for this drive, call the Red Cross at (800) 733-2767 or visit www.redcrossblood.org.

2014 Wish Book focuses on pediatric patients

Gift giving is not only for holiday time. Yale-New Haven's fourth annual Wish Book is a gift list focusing on the needs of our youngest patients — those being treated at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital — throughout the year. The 2014 list is a collection of items suggested by YNHCH staff that will comfort children and their families at a time when they are most challenged and vulnerable.

Many of the gifts in the Wish Book are items that some families are unable to purchase themselves and others items include equipment that may be in short supply. Suggested gifts include car seats, rocking chairs and breast pumps. Over the last three years, supporters contributed more than $95,000 for Wish Book gifts. You may request a copy of the 2014 Wish Book by calling (203) 200-GIFT (4438) or visiting www.ynhhwishbook.org where donations may be made online.
