Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of America’s best

For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has named Yale-New Haven Hospital to its Honor Roll as one of the nation’s top hospitals, according to its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” rankings in the July 14 issue. Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of only three hospitals in New England to be honored. In addition to being included on the list of the 19 best U.S. hospitals, Yale-New Haven Hospital was ranked among the very best in the nation in 11 of the 16 medical specialties evaluated: cancer; ear, nose and throat; endocrinology; gastrointestinal disorders; geriatric care; gynecology; heart and heart surgery; kidney disease; neurology and neurosurgery; psychiatry and respiratory disorders.

Shoreline Medical Center now offers 24-hour emergency care

Due to increased demand for high-quality medical services along the shoreline, Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center emergency department has expanded to 24-hour coverage as of July 7. Shoreline Medical Center is located in Guilford, exit 59 off I-95.
Golf and Tennis Open

Register for the 17th Annual Golf & Tennis Open on July 21

The Friends of Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital will host its 17th Annual Golf & Tennis Open on Monday, July 21 at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford. Proceeds will help fund supportive care services that relieve pain and discomfort in the most fragile group of hospitalized children suffering from trauma, cardiac disease, cancer and other serious illnesses. The Connecticut Challenge: Cycling for cancer survivors

Register now for the Connecticut Challenge — a non-competitive bike ride to raise money to support cancer survivorship initiatives at Yale. The fourth annual event will take place in Fairfield on Saturday, July 26, and all proceeds raised will directly support the Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic at Yale Cancer Center and the HERO’s Clinic for pediatric cancer survivors at Yale School of Medicine. Donations can be made online or mailed to the Connecticut Challenge, PO Box 566, Southport, CT 06890.

The Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic and HERO’s Clinic provide screening for long-term consequences resulting from cancer treatment and helps to empower survivors to take steps to maximize their health, quality of life, and longevity. The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary is proud to present the 15th Annual Toy Closets Golf Outing on Friday, August 29, at Lyman Orchards Golf Club in Middlefield. Proceeds from the outing are used to purchase toys along with therapeutic and recreational play materials for children in the hospital. Organ Donation Awareness Fair on Sept. 6

Save the date! On Saturday, Sept 6, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m, on the New Haven Green, Sukru Emre, MD, director of the Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center, will host a Organ Donor Awareness Fair. Join us to learn more about Yale-New Haven Hospital organ transplant services, register to be an organ donor and hear stories from living donors and transplant survivors. This event is FREE, and food and entertainment will be provided.

A new drug-coated stent has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat people with narrowed coronary arteries, the vessels that supply blood to the heart. Drug-coated stents have come under scrutiny recently over concerns that users may be at greater risk of a rare blood clot known as a stent thrombosis.
