Spring health lecture series at Shoreline Medical Center
Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center in Guilford is offering several lectures this spring for parents of young children, mature adults and the general public.

Geriatric center moves, free parking available
The Dorothy Adler Geriatric Assessment Center, founded in 1981, is one of the oldest and busiest centers for comprehensive geriatric assessment in the country. The center evaluates patients with age-related problems that affect daily functioning--problems such as memory loss, confusion, agitation, depression, "failure to thrive," and gait disorders. Individuals with recent decline and threatened loss of independence are particularly suitable. Cancer Survivors Day event June 3
The Connecticut Challenge Survivorship Clinic at Yale Cancer Center is the first dedicated, multidisciplinary resource for cancer survivors in the State of Connecticut to provide patients and their families with vital information on cancer prevention, wellness, supportive services and the latest health research related to cancer survivorship. On Wednesday, June 3, Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven will host “Dedicated to Living,” a free event at Yale’s West Campus in Orange. 2009 Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure on June 6
The Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Annual summer concert series starts June 12
The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary will kick off its 2009 “Notes at Noon” summer concert series on Friday, June 12, at 12 p.m., with a New Orleans jazz-style
performance by Chris Baillargeon. The jazz performance is one in a series of seven concerts by area musicians, to be held each Friday at noon through July 31 in Hunter Courtyard, located at the corner of York and Cedar Streets in New Haven (weather permitting). The “Notes at Noon” concert schedule is as follows:
- June 12: Chris Baillargeon (New Orleans jazz)
- June 19: Steve Atwood Bank (classical rock)
- June 26: Catfish (blues, soul, rock & roll)
- July 10: Airborne Jazz (contemporary jazz)
- July 17: Glen Roth (jazz soloist)
- July 24: Harry Strom Quartet (jazz)
- July 31: This Land is Your Land (folk & bluegrass solo)

Tommy Fund golf tournament June 30
The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer annual golf tournament will be held on Monday June 29, at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford. Registration begins at 10am and the shotgun start is at noon. More than 100 New England golfers participate in this popular golf tournament to raise money for important resources for children receiving cancer care at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. Enthusiastic volunteers of all ages needed
Established in 1933, Yale-New Haven Hospital's volunteer services is one of the oldest organized hospital volunteer programs in the country. The hospital's 1,200 volunteers contribute more than 100,000 hours of service annually, working directly with patients or in behind-the-scenes roles.
Volunteers are generally asked to give a minimum of four hours a week for at least six months. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities to fit individual schedules, abilities and interests, including positions at Smilow Cancer Hospital, in the intensive care unit family waiting area, and in customer service. Energetic volunteers of all ages and skills are needed, along with patients and family members who may serve as patient and family advisors. Golf and tennis open July 20
The 18th annual Friends of Yale-New Haven Childrens Hospital Golf and Tennis Open will take place on Monday, July 20, at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford. Registration for golf begins at 11am, and 11:45am for tennis. An evening program including cocktails, dinner and an auction begins at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $250 for golf, $140 for tennis, and $80 for cocktails and dinner only. Proceeds from this year’s Open will help fund the purchase of equipment for the new Pediatric Specialty Center at One Long Wharf, offering physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology services for children of all ages.
