Warm a heart, warm your home by giving blood on March 5

Yale-New Haven Hospital will sponsor a blood drive on Wednesday, March 5, 7 a.m.-5:45 p.m. in the East Pavilion cafeteria. All blood donors who give between Feb. 1 and March 31 will be eligible to win $200 toward the cost of heating their homes whether the source is oil, gas or electric heat. The Red Cross will choose one lucky winner each week through March 31. Anyone wishing to donate may send an email to sign up or call 203.688.7436. Walk-ins are always welcome, too!

6th Annual Women’s Health Conference

Sponsored in part by Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Health, the conference offers a wide variety of speakers, information booths and seminars that address topics in the areas of medicine, wellness, alternative therapies, nutrition and beauty. The Friends of Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital telethon airs March 15

Yale-New Haven Children's HospitalOn Saturday, March 15, the Friends of Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital 2008 telethon will be broadcast live, from 7-8 p.m. on WTNH News Channel 8 and simulcast on MyTV 9. The 6th annual telethon will be hosted by WTNH news anchors Keith Kountz and Jocelyn Maminta, who is also a Friends board member. The goal of this year’s telethon is to raise $75,000 to help support the Friends’ mission of improving the health and well-being of children and their families at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital through clinical care, education and outreach. Trigeminal neuralgiaTrigeminal neuralgia is a painful facial condition in which people may experience sharp, electric shock-like pain to the cheeks, jaw, teeth, gums and lips. On Thursday, March 27, Jonathan Knisely, MD, and Kenneth Vives, MD, from Yale-New Haven Hospital Gamma Knife Center, along with Philip Barasch, MD, and Kenneth Lipow, MD, from Bridgeport Hospital, will discuss the signs and symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia as well as gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery and its advantages as a treatment for this condition. “We Care” special wellness event at Westfarms Mall

Bristol Hospital, affiliated with the Yale-New Haven Cancer Network, Westfarms Mall and the American Cancer Society, are sponsoring a special wellness event on Saturday, March 29, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Westfarms Mall in Farmington. Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center in Guilford will open its third art exhibit on Thursday, April 3, 5:30-7 p.m. Featured artists include hospital staff and physicians along with area residents. Refreshments will be served.
