Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of America’s best
For the first time, U.S. News & World Report
has named Yale-New Haven Hospital
(YNHH) to its Honor Roll as one of the
nation’s top hospitals, according to its annual
“America’s Best Hospitals” rankings in
the July 23 issue. YNHH was the only
Connecticut hospital selected to the Honor Roll, and one
of only three hospitals in New England to be honored. In
addition to being included on the list of the 18 best U.S.
hospitals, YNHH was ranked among the very best in the
nation in 10 of the 16 medical specialties evaluated: cancer,
digestive disorders, ear, nose and throat, endocrinology, geriatrics,
gynecology, heart and heart disease, kidney disease,
psychiatry and respiratory disorders.

When faced with a serious illness, the most important
choice is where to be treated
The fact is, not all hospitals have the same capabilities.
Yale New-Haven Hospital is one of the select few medical
centers in the country where groundbreaking advancements
are being developed by the same physicians who
treat your condition. Only a few hospitals in the country
have the depth of expertise to be at the forefront of
medical care. Yale-New Haven is one of those hospitals.

Free glaucoma screening August 24
Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale School
of Medicine, the Friends of the
Congressional Glaucoma Caucus
Foundation, and Prevent Blindness
Tri-State are teaming up to offer a free screening for glaucoma
on Friday, August 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the East
Pavilion special events area. A leading cause of blindness
worldwide, glaucoma is an eye disease that causes damage to
the optic nerve. Because visual problems often don’t appear
until the disease is too far along to treat, catching the disease
early may prevent progression to visual impairment or blindness.

mobile mammography van to
provide breast screenings. The van, staffed by certified
mammography technologists and outfitted with stateof-
the-art digital equipment, is one of just a dozen in
the U.S. The van service is offered to businesses, corporations,
senior centers, health care facilities and health
fairs throughout New Haven, Fairfield, Middlesex and
New London counties. For a brochure that provides

Presenting “At Your Request” room service dining
YNHH has launched room
service dining, in which
patients can order food from
a menu in the maternity,
pediatric, oncology and cardiology
units. This service
provides patients with more than 45 entrees to choose from,
as long as their physician has not indicated any dietary modifications.
While the service is currently available on four
medical units, plans are to expand it to the remaining
patient care areas in October. Patients are already sending
rave reviews about the service, including one who said, “I
love room service dining. It empowers me to make my own
choices.”
