Leading the field of organ transplantation services
The Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center (YNHTC) offers a full range of transplant and post-transplant support services. And with the appointment of world-renowned transplant expert Sukru Emre, MD, as director, YNHTC is an even more powerful leader in the field of organ transplantation. Dr. Emre brings extraordinary expertise in pediatric and adult liver transplantation, including split-liver transplants (dividing a liver between two recipients) and living donor transplants, which involves transplanting a portion of a donor’s healthy liver. Race, walk or run for the Tommy Fund
The Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer seeks to increase participation and awareness to help children receiving cancer treatment at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital and their families. Come play your part on Sunday, September 30 at the annual Tommy Fund Family Day at the Connecticut Tennis Center in New Haven. Participants can run a 5K road race, walk two miles or run in a .3 mile fun run for kids under the age of 10. Registration costs $15; children under 10 are $8. The first 800 to register will receive a long-sleeved shirt designed by pediatric oncology patients at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. "Can you hear me now?": hearing and balance health
The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring “Can You Hear Me Now?”, a free lecture about hearing and balance health issues on Thursday, September 20, from 6-8 p.m. in the East Pavilion cafeteria. Elias Michaelides, MD, director of Yale-New Haven Hospital’s hearing and balance program, will discuss common hearing problems as well as dizziness, vertigo and inner ear problems. He will also discuss treatments such as hearing aids and hearing restoration techniques including cochlear implants. Refreshments and parking will be provided. Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital promotes healthy families
Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital and Kohl’s department stores have added five new brochures to the “Caring Parents Make Healthy Families” initiative, a community outreach campaign designed to promote parent education about child health and injury prevention. The new brochures, available in English and Spanish, include Play grow, building skills through play with children 3-5 years; What eczema?; What is diaper rash?; What is a birthmark?; and safety.
