October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
YNHH and Yale Cancer Center are offering back-to-back breast cancer events in October. Share personal stories and learn about the latest advances in the detection, treatment and prevention of breast cancer.   • Wednesday, October 10: “The Patient’s Guide to Living with Advanced Breast Cancer” presented by Michael P. DiGiovanna, MD, PhD. A light supper will be served at 6 p.m. with the lecture starting at 6:30 p.m. in the YNHH East Pavilion cafeteria.
  • Thursday, October 11: The Second Annual Breast Cancer Community Forum “Hope, Not Fear” will take place at the Savin Rock Conference Center in West Haven, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Weight loss surgery team brings together expertise from many disciplines
Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program, designated by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery as a Center of Excellence, offers comprehensive care for the morbidly obese patient before and after weight loss surgery. The staff consists of a team of professionals who are experts in their respective fields – medicine, nursing, nutrition, psychology and surgery. Announcing new hours for laboratory medicine at
Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center

YNHSMC announces new laboratory medicine hours for patient convenience: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. The laboratory medicine service features sameday laboratory services for many tests; welcomes walk-ins (with physician requisition or order); and accepts all laboratory requisitions and most insurance plans. Sized to fit into most wallets, the card is designed to help you keep track of prescription medications, vitamins, immunizations and other important health information. Auxiliary annual meeting features renowned nutrition expert
David L. Katz, MD, MPH, director of Yale’s Prevention Research Center as well as the nutrition columnist for “O,”The Oprah Magazine, will be the keynote speaker at the 55th annual meeting of theYale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary onWednesday,October 10, at 11:45 a.m. The luncheon at the New Haven Lawn Club costs $30 per person.
