Palliative care program helps improve quality of life

Diabetes Awareness Day
CARE: Community Alliance for
Research and Engagement is
sponsoring Diabetes Awareness
Day to create awareness and
enhance knowledge around
diabetes prevention and management.
The event will be held on Monday, from 2-6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the Dixwell-Yale
University Community Learning Center at 101 Ashmun
St. The event will feature an "ask the experts" panel,
disease information, risk assessments and referrals, clinical
trial recruitment information, healthy food demonstrations,
and exercise ideas and activities for adults and children.

Frankly Speaking About Lung Cancer
On Saturday, Nov. 10,
Yale-New Haven Hospital, along
with Yale Cancer Center and the
Wellness Community, will sponsor
“Frankly Speaking About Lung
Cancer.” This free discussion is open
to lung cancer patients and their
families, and all those interested in learning more about
lung cancer. The event will be led by a multidisciplinary
team of experts who will present the latest information on
lung cancer prevention, screening, detection and treatment.

Breast Cancer 2007: What’s New?
Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale
Cancer Center are co-sponsoring Y-ME
Connecticut’s 18th annual symposium,
“Breast Cancer 2007: What’s New?” The
program, to be held from 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday,
Nov. 3 at the Anlyan Center, 300 Cedar St. in
New Haven, will provide the latest information on breast cancer
prevention, detection, treatment and research. A team of
nationally recognized oncologists will review the latest developments
and answer audience questions. The symposium is

New location for the Yale Eye Center
The Yale Eye Center has moved
from 330 Cedar St. to a newly
renovated location on the third
floor of Temple Medical Center at
40 Temple St. in New Haven.
The Center includes leading-edge
diagnostic technology, 28 newly furnished exam areas and
seven rooms dedicated to diagnostic testing. Patients may
use valet parking services, the Temple Street Garage, connected
directly by a second story skywalk, or the Temple
Medical Garage, connected directly to 40 Temple St. on

10,000 Steps to Better Health
The Yale-New Haven Hospital Auxiliary will sponsor a free community
health education lecture entitled, "10,000 Steps to Better Health," from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Max Taffel conference
room. Ellen Liskov, MPH, registered dietitian, certified diabetes
educator and outpatient nutrition specialist; and Susann Boroczky, BS,
registered dietitian, will share valuable information on diet and exercise
strategies associated with successful weight loss. Attendees will be
provided with a free pedometer to monitor their success in achieving
10,000 steps a day. A light supper will be provided. To register, call
