A year of thanks
Unprecedented volatility in the economy has kept unemployment high and moved more people to high deductible, lower cost health insurance options or to Medicaid, contributing to delayed access to routine and preventive care and increased use of emergency department and acute care services. It has depressed non-operating income and increased pension funding requirements. It has contributed to general concern about the stability of the healthcare industry so much that access to capital to support needed infrastructure and program investments has challenged many organizations.
Yale-New Haven Hospital is not immune to these forces, but we have tried to consistently manage these challenges and steward our resources to support better care for the patients we are privileged to serve. Our strong FY 2010 performance was the result of the continued commitment and dedicated teamwork among the Hospital's executive and medical leaders, management and staff. We were blessed by the generosity of countless donors. As always, we were supported by the direction and guidance of a thoughtful and engaged Board of Trustees.
Together we have advanced our hospital's services and accomplished strong results. Going forward, we will continue to provide outstanding, safe care to the tens of thousands of patients who put their trust in us each year.
