Shoreline Medical Center celebrates 10th anniversary

Within days after Yale-New Haven Hospital's Shoreline Medical Center opened in 2004, it became obvious the Guilford facility was meeting a need. "People were lined up outside the doors of the Emergency Department before it opened at 4 pm," said Beth DeRosa Linsley, manager of Diagnostic Radiology and one of the original Shoreline staff members. "People were trying to sneak in just before they closed the doors at midnight."

Given the huge response, the original, eight-bed ED became a 24/7 operation in 2008, added four beds in 2013 and will soon open four more. Scoring consistently high in patient satisfaction, the ED is in the midst of a second expansion and continues to see a steady increase in patient volume along with other services at Shoreline, including Surgery, Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Cardiology and the Breast Center.

It's baaaack! YNHH seeks Magnet re-designation

In 2011, Yale-New Haven Hospital achieved Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) after a four-year preparation process that included an extensive application and four-day site visit from ANCC appraisers.

After celebrating the initial designation, YNHH immediately began working toward re-designation, which the hospital is seeking in 2016. Once re-designation is achieved, YNHH will be the largest Magnet hospital in the United States.
