YNHH announces 2013 compensation and benefits

Yale-New Haven Hospital has announced the details of the 2013 Compensation and Benefits Program for employees.

"Maintaining a package of compensation and benefits that meets the needs of our employees is critical to our remaining an employer of choice," said Richard D'Aquila, president and COO. "This has been a year of achievement for Yale-New Haven and our highly qualified, talented and engaged workforce contributed immeasurably to our success."

The highlights of this year's program include:

  • Merit increases — based on an employee's pay zone and performance rating — increased from a maximum of 4 percent in 2012 to 5 percent this year.
  • Employees may again earn up to 3 percent of their salary if PIP goals are met at maximum.
  • Co-pays and deductibles have been eliminated for some women's preventive health services, as required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
  • YNHH continues to offer medical premium waivers to full-time employees earning less than $32,000 for the Advantage Plan; full-time employees earning less than $57,000 per year and part-time benefits-eligible employees earning less than $27.40 per hour may participate in the Advantage Plan at no cost to themselves and with reduced dependent and family premiums.

D'Aquila points out that YNHH continues to invest in benefits that support the health and well-being of employees and their family members. The hospital continues to fund the majority of medical premium costs — approximately 87 percent for full-time workers and approximately 82 percent of premiums for part-time employees.

"Yale-New Haven ranks very high in the rate at which it funds its medical benefits program and we also work very hard at controlling costs," explained D'Aquila. "In 2014, we will introduce a new pricing structure that rewards employees for healthier behaviors and helps to maintain our costs so we can continue to offer exceptional medical benefits."

The livingwellCARES Care Coordination Program offers confidential, personal support in helping employees and family members manage their diabetes. Nurse care coordinators facilitate access to primary care and specialist providers. In 2013, program participants will qualify for waived co-pays for generic medications that treat high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Employee and Family Resources helps employees and family members with a variety of work/life services. On-site counseling is available at 836 Howard Avenue across from the YNHH Emergency Department and at the Xavier Building on the Saint Raphael Campus. Open enrollment for health and related benefits is Monday, October 29 through Friday November 16. Additional information summarizing covered benefits and related premium costs will be mailed to employees' homes prior to October 29. All employees are required to enroll online at www.ynhhsbenefits.com. Onsite benefits fairs will be held from Tuesday, November 6 to Friday, November 9.
