Convenient to both campuses, uniform shop opens
New employee Kat Bodden, an emergency department technical assistant in the Adult ED, recently bought a uniform at the Life Uniform store on 2 Howe Street from Gabriel Parrilla, assistant manager.
Life Uniform, a national chain of stores that specializes in providing uniforms for the healthcare industry, has opened a shop on the first floor of the YNHH building at 2 Howe Street, located conveniently between the hospital's two campuses.
Life Uniform is the hospital's official uniform retailer and provides uniforms for nurses, PCAs, EDTAs, clinical and ER technicians, business associates, Diagnostic Imaging staff, milieu counselors, materials management and unit materials associates, observation and early care and education centers staff. In addition, the store sells approved fleece vests and jackets for nurses, and lab coats.
Uniforms help employees fulfill the first line of the Service Excellence pledge to make a "great first impression" and are considered an employee benefit because the hospital partially subsidizes those purchased at Life Uniform.
In the future, additional departments — including patient transport and rehabilitation staff — will be able to purchase their uniforms at the store.
"The hospital has an excellent partner in Life Uniform for all uniform needs," said Sue Fitzsimons, RN, PhD, senior vice president, Patient Services. "They do an excellent job of doing on-campus fairs where staff can try on and order uniforms and they have done a good job of setting up a data base that tracks the status of individual accounts."
Hours at Life Uniform on 2 Howe Street are: Monday-Wednesday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The store's phone number is 203-789-2237; the Life Uniform web site is: www.lifeuniform.com.
