Finance gathers its 2012 employees of the month — and celebrates

Since 1986, the Finance Division of Yale New Haven Health System has chosen and celebrated one employee each month who personifies its core values and personal dedication to customer service.

Members of the Finance Customer Relations Committee (FCRC), a group of 13 employees, help with the confidential nomination process and parties to which families are invited so children can better understand why their parent is being recognized.

Once a year, James Staten, executive vice president, Finance, holds a luncheon for the 11 employees chosen that year — the committee does not choose an employee of the month in August.

"Finding and celebrating employees of the month takes time, but it is so important," said Staten. "People look up to the employees who are chosen and it is wonderful that families get to see what an honor it is. What's exciting about this year is that we will begin to find those employees of the month who are serving on the Saint Raphael Campus."

"Not in my wildest dreams would I have guessed that they would choose me," says Gayle Bolton, an account resolution analyst in Managed Care, who calls the EOM program "amazing."

"The program shows that your co-workers are paying attention to your work ethic and how you interact with people," she said. "Each month the committee has many nominations to consider so it is truly an honor when you are chosen."

With the integration of the employees on the Saint Raphael Campus, more than 2,000 employees are now eligible to be nominated for Employee of the Month honors. Nomination forms are available online http://10.51.117.120/fcrc/.

"We are growing as a hospital and it's exciting to bring in different employees and build a culture based on shared core values," said Staten. "Employee of the Month provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the exceptional people who do the work."
