Five YNHCH specialties are recognized by U.S. News & World Report
Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital has been ranked among the best in the nation for five of its pediatric subspecialties in the 2013-14 Best Children's Hospitals rankings, published online by U.S. News & World Report. YNHCH ranked in diabetes and endocrinology (#4); gastroenterology (#25); cancer (#31); urology (#37); and pulmonology (#44).
This is the third consecutive year that at least five YNHCH specialties are ranked by U.S. News & World Report. At #4, YNHCH diabetes and endocrinology again ranked among the elite national programs and for the first time since pediatric cancer was included in the rankings, YNHCH's pediatric oncology program was ranked.
"We are honored to be recognized as a regional leader in advancing pediatric medical care," said George Lister, MD, physician-in-chief of YNHCH and chair of pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine. "These rankings acknowledge the deep dedication of our doctors, nurses and staff, who strive to deliver excellent and compassionate care to the children and families at YNHCH while we continue to improve access to our services across the state and region."
"Our sustained commitment to provide the very best care for the children of this region across a broad continuum of specialty and subspecialty services is in evidence in these rankings," said Michael G. Caty, MD, surgeon-in-chief at YNHCH and chief each day to provide comprehensive expertise and compassionate care to our patients and their families."
The U.S. News survey methodology combines clinical data points from 179 pediatric centers with a separate reputational score derived from a survey in which 1,500 pediatric specialists — 150 in each specialty — were asked to which hospital they would send the sickest children.
YNHCH cares for more children than any other hospital in Connecticut and serves as one of the region's major referral centers for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of high-acuity pediatric cases, including diabetes care, complex bone disorders, hematology/oncology disorders, solid organ and stem cell transplantation, and interventional cardiology. YNHCH is also a Level 1 pediatric trauma center.
