Zipcar finds a parking spot at Yale-New Haven Hospital

Yale-New Haven Hospital has launched a new partnership with Zipcar — the world's leading car-sharing network — that gives employees access to cars for use during the day, before or after work. Employees can reserve cars by the hour or the day and pay only for the time they actually use the car, with no additional charges for gas, taxes, registration, insurance or maintenance.

Two Zipcar vehicles are housed in the Air Rights Garage for employee-member use. In addition, Zipcar users can also reserve and use cars throughout New Haven and Zipcar hubs around the country.

YNHH employees receive a discounted membership fee for the first year and discounts on the regular rates with reservations starting at $7.50 per hour and $69 per day. Through a special incentive, employees who join by August 11 can have the first year membership fee waived altogether by using promo code: YNHHS.

"We are excited to partner with Zipcar and provide this opportunity for employees," said Rodney Slaughter, manager, Parking and Sustainable Transportation. "Many employees carpool, shuttle, take public transportation or bike to work and do not have easy access to a vehicle during the day. This program gives employees the flexibility and convenience of access to a car when they need it."

Members can book a vehicle online, via Zipcar's mobile app or by phone. Once the car is reserved, drivers unlock the selected vehicle using their keyless entry Zipcard and drive away.

Using Zipcars also offers employees freedoms similar to using their own cars without the constraints of fixed routes and schedules associated with public transportation.

"Not only is Zipcar an innovative employee benefit," added Slaughter, "it provides a responsible, sustainable alternative that supports the hospital's traffic demand management goals." In addition to individual memberships, hospital managers can also open department accounts to provide vehicles for employees who need to make work-related trips that require a vehicle.
