May 16

Editor's note: Additional photos from the dinner are in this gallery.

Two inductees from the Saint Raphael Campus enjoyed the video which made singers and dancers out of many employees who were new to singing and dancing. Shown are RoseangelaWard (left), specialist, Laboratory Medicine, and Lisa Acker, secretary, Department of Women and Children.

Inductee Gloria Alexander (left), a teacher in the hospital’s Day Care Center, enjoyed comparing notes with 35-year milestoner Andy Laudano. Alexander teaches the very young while Laudano, a computer training specialist in ITS, teaches adult employees. Alexander sat with her manager, Jody Platner, director of the Day Care Center.

This group of four Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses cares for the smallest and most compromised patients that a hospital treats. Together the four inductees share more than 100 years of experience working closely with preemies and their worried parents. The QCC dinner was their night to shine. Seated are: Nancy Sypher (left), RN, and Kathy Blankenbaker, RN. Standing are: Lynn Petrini (left), RN, and Donna Roberts, RN.
To the surprise of the audience, two normally mild-mannered social workers really showed a somewhat wild singing style. Inductees Melissa Rowe (left), supervisor, SocialWork – Parenting Support, and Eileen Cain, manager, Social Work, drew laughs from the crowd as they belted out Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” in the employee video. Their manager, Paula Crombie, director of SocialWork, asked for their autographs, of course.

Thirty-year milestoners Donna McCoy- Roberts (left), patient account representative, PFAS, and Jacqueline Foster, patient representative, Patient Relations, had a good laugh at the QCC video “starring” employees.

Curtis Boyd (left), lead aide, Environmental Services, and Robert Volta, chief technologist, Diagnostic Radiology, looked the height of fashion at the QCC dinner.

Peter Marone, director, Laboratory Medicine, and Donna Scarano, manager, Prenatal Laboratory, shared a laugh when they saw the Lab Medicine segment of the QCC video.

It was Inductee Relations at the QCC dinner for this group from Volunteer Services, Patient and Guest Relations, who celebrated their inductees, milestones and retirees. Seated are Sheryl Sobolewski (left), volunteer program coordinator; and Henry May Pue, retired patient representative. Standing (l-r) are: Christopher Teague, patient representative; Holly Gaydos, volunteer project coordinator; Joan Jordan, patient representative, celebrating 30 years of service; Jeannette Hodge, director; and Lucy Early, patient representative.

It was bear hugs all around from DavidWurcel, vice president, Corporate Business Services, at the dinner. Shown (l-r) are: Charles Deveny, stationary engineer, Plant Operations; Enid Rodriguez, senior employee relations specialist,Workforce Development; Robert Roberson, technician, Environmental Services;Wurcel; and Dori Manner, senior employee relations specialist, Employee Relations.

Prior to the dinner, nurses on the Saint Raphael Campus celebrated their quarter centuries of caring for patients with Michael Holmes, senior vice president, Operations, SRC. Shown from the left are: Mary Kennedy, RN, Emergency Department; Nancy Silva, RN, lactation consultant; Helen Connolly, RN; Holmes; Patti Urbinati, RN; and MaryWilson, RN, Maternity Unit.

Before the dinner, the chemistry was right between Richard D’Aquila and Rosita Chi. The hospital’s president encouraged Chi, a former medical technologist in Laboratory Medicine, to have her portrait taken with him. Chi, who retired in 2007 after 42 years, now works casual status. She returned a few months after retiring from YNHH so she could continue working!

Marna Borgstrom, (center), CEO, Yale-New Haven Hospital, greets fellow QCC veterans Navin Trivedi, medical technologist, Immunology Laboratory, who celebrated a milestone of 30 years of service, and Barbara Blanko, RN, CTICU, who celebrated 35 years.

Theresa Ervin, pediatric phlebotomist and PCA, Pediatric Specialty Center, and Lori Johnson, RN, Pediatric Surgery Center, stopped to pose for a photo with fellow inductees Karin Allen, RN,and Elizabeth O’Neal, RN, nurses in the Hospital Research Unit, before sitting down to view the video starring many of the inductees.

The pre-dinner cocktail party is always an excellent way to renew friendships and meet fellow inductees. Shown at the party (l-r) are: Chuck Aprea, RN, MSN, utilization review specialist, Care Management; Jennifer Butricks, RN, coordinator of nursing care, Geriatric Unit; Ernestine Fisher, scheduler, Nursing Resource Pool; SheilaWilmer, occupational therapist, Outpatient Rehabilitation; and Linda Mesham, radiology technologist, Temple Radiology.
