Employees to participate in 2013 Employee Engagement Survey

The 2013 Employee Engagement Survey launches Monday, Nov. 4 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 24.
With the theme "Stronger Together," this year's survey will be conducted simultaneously throughout Yale New Haven Health System and include employees at Yale- New Haven, Bridgeport and Greenwich hospitals, Health Services Corporation and Northeast Medical Group (NEMG). In addition, for the first time, this year 's Employee Engagement Survey will include responses from employees on the Saint Raphael Campus of Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Employees will be able to access the anonymous survey electronically from any computer with Internet access at www.ynhhs.org/survey or via links on the hospital intranet sites.
The survey probes various aspects of employee engagement including teamwork, professional growth, and feedback and recognition. Throughout the survey period, employees will have opportunities to win prizes for participating.
Advisory Board Solutions, the independent company administering the survey, will communicate results in the aggregate — no individual responses will be shared. Survey responses and results will allow leadership to identify the overall strengths and opportunities of the organization.
In recent surveys, YNHH employees ranked high in overall employee engagement, far exceeding the national average of similar organizations. Engaged employees are those who are fully involved in and enthusiastic about their work. Past surveys have indicated that a large percentage of YNHH employees who took the survey are engaged in their jobs and that employees, overall, are highly loyal and emotionally committed to the hospital.
As a result of past surveys, the hospital has added or expanded several employee benefits, including the YNHH livingwell Fitness Center, staff recognition programs and programs that support continuing education and career advancement.
For example, Tom Peterson, RN, Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, began his 23-year career at YNHH as a part-time truck driver in the hospital warehouse, moved on to Materials Management, became an Emergency Department technical assistant and trained to become an officer in Protective Services. Peterson then used the hospital's tuition reimbursement program to go to nursing school. The opportunities that Petersen has taken advantage of at YNHH reflect how the input from employee surveys can change lives.
"We strongly encourage every employee to complete this year's Employee Engagement Survey," said Kevin Myatt, senior vice president, Human Resources, YNHHS. "In fact, it is so important, we have added participation in this year's survey as a measure in the Performance Incentive Program."
In YNHH's 2014 PIP program, survey participation will be measured at 85 percent of employees completing the survey for the threshold goal; 90 percent to meet target; and 95 percent of employees must complete the survey in order to achieve the maximum goal.
"We have a long and proud history of valuing employees' ideas and opinions," added Myatt. "We need everyone's input in order to continue to move our organization in the right direction and help us grow stronger together."
