YNHH honors its "heroes at the bedside" at annual PCA celebration

At a November 6 reception, YNHH honored the work of its "heroes at the bedside" — the patient care associates (PCAs) and Emergency Department technical assistants who work on the York Street Campus, and the clinical technicians, Diagnostic Radiology technical assistants, Emergency Room technicians, medical assistants, Radiology technical assistants, Radiology care aides, and Radiology care assistants who work on the Saint Raphael Campus.
"My first three jobs were at the bedside and I remember what patients look like when they are fearful and apprehensive, and grateful for your touch," Richard D'Aquila, president and COO, told the group in the 55 Park Street Auditorium. "You are part of a great team and you make the experience at Yale-New Haven special for patients. Your leaders and managers and, most importantly, your patients notice what you do and this is our day to thank you."
More than 60 PCAs and EDTAs advanced to level II on the hospital's clinical ladder, including five PCAs who work at four of the nine Smilow Care Centers in Connecticut. After the ceremony, caregivers enjoyed a reception outside the auditorium.
Maternity Services was well represented at the PCA celebration. Shown (l-r) at the reception are: Sharifatu Bawa, PCA; Maria Sanchez, PCA; Sherry Petit, RN, assistant patient service manager; and Brenda Wills, PCA.
