Smilow Wellness Workshops presents author of Cancer's Gifts with Love & Hope

The Smilow Wellness Workshops presents a discussion with Robert Heffernan, author of Cancer's Gifts with Love & Hope, on Tuesday, September 3, 5:30 p.m., 55 Park Street auditorium.

He will share his experience with stage four cancer and how the diagnosis provided him with a renewed perspective on how to find goodness and beauty in the toughest of times. The author will sign books after the discussion.

Blood draw station open in Wallingford

The hospital has opened its 18th blood draw station offering services for adults and children at 665 North Colony Road, Wallingford. The station is open Monday- Friday, 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (closed daily 12:30-1 p.m.) and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon. No appointment is necessary; most major insurance plans are accepted. The hospital has other blood draw stations in Branford, Clinton, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, New Haven, North Haven, Norwalk and West Haven.


YNHHS recognized for protecting patient privacy

FairWarning, an international patient privacy monitoring company, has recognized Yale New Haven Health System for its commitment to protecting patient information through ongoing monitoring and best practices.

FairWarning designated YNHHS a FairWarning Ready Certified Care Provider for attaining key milestones in protecting patient privacy.

For the past year, YNHHS has used the FairWarning electronic auditing tool that determines which employees and caregivers access patient records and when. FairWarning recognized Yale-New Haven, Bridgeport and Greenwich hospitals and Northeast Medical Group for having Information Technology Services staff who are certified FairWarning professionals and providing ongoing monitoring of computer use. The company also recognized YNHHS for integrating different clinical systems, including Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH and the PACS medical imaging system. This allows FairWarning to detect potential privacy breaches in these applications.


Time to update SmartWeb entries

ITS reminds employees to update their entries in the SmartWeb directory, whose information is only as accurate as employees make it.

Employees can make corrections by going to Employee Self Service where they will click on My Info to access their information. Employees should update their personal, work and emergency notification tabs.

Medical librarians to host table on Aug. 22

Medical librarians from the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library of Yale School of Medicine will staff a table outside the East Pavilion cafeteria on Thursday, August 22, 10:30 a.m-2 p.m. They will show hospital staff online clinical resources and provide information on the library's resources for mobile devices.
