Christmas services scheduled on both campuses
On Tuesday, December 24 there will be a 4 pm vigil mass in the chapel on the Saint Raphael Campus. Masses will be held on both campuses on Wednesday, December 25. Masses will be held in the Saint Raphael Campus chapel at 7:30 am and at noon and in the York Street Campus chapel at 9:30 am.
Free flu shots for dependents through prescription drug benefit
Adult dependents age 18 and older who are covered by a YNHHS medical plan may receive a free flu shot through their prescription drug benefit with CVS Caremark. Dependents may go to participating pharmacies in the CVS Caremark vaccination network and show their CVS Caremark ID card to receive the flu shot at no cost. In addition to CVS pharmacies, the network includes Walgreens and Rite Aid.
For adult plan members, the vaccination program also provides at no cost immunizations for pneumonia, shingles, Hepatitis A and B and tetanus/diphtheria/ pertussis. Individuals should first check with their personal physician about the appropriateness of the vaccines, as age and health guidelines apply. To find a pharmacy in the CVS Caremark vaccination network, employees should go to www.caremark.com.
Dependents under the age 18 should obtain flu shots from their pediatrician.
Employees who have not yet received a flu shot should contact Occupational Health Services at 688- 1126, York Street, or 789-6216, Saint Raphael Campus.
Dec. 13 deadline to elect 2014 PTO cash-in
The Benefits Office reminds employees that they have until 5 pm on Friday, December 13, to elect either "on demand" or "ongoing" paid time off (PTO) cash-in for 2014. Employees must make their election choice online at Employee Self Service from a computer at work or at home or a kiosk at the York Street campus or on computers at Selina Lewis 3 on the Saint Raphael Campus. They should print a confirmation statement to complete the process.
YNHH sponsors two post-Christmas blood drives
During the holidays, blood supplies drop significantly, so donating blood becomes even more important. Giving blood costs nothing but a pint can save up to three lives.
To help the Connecticut Red Cross ensure a safe and secure supply of blood, YNHH will host two blood drives in late December.
On Friday, December 27, the York Street Campus will host a blood drive at 55 Park Street from 7 am-6 pm. For an appointment, employees should contact Lonnie Avery, tissue and transfusion safety officer, Blood Bank Laboratory, 688-8425, or lonnie.avery@ ynhh.org.
On Monday, December 30, the Saint Raphael Campus will host a blood drive in the Allspice Café, 9 am-1:45 pm. To schedule an appointment for this drive, employees should call the Red Cross at 800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.

The holidays can be particularly stressful and employees now have a new way to seek help. YNHH provides assistance to employees and their family members through the Employee and Family Resources program.
This free confidential resource helps employees manage the demands of work and personal life and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. EFR will put the employees in touch with the appropriate professional who can provide counseling for stress, anxiety or depression, marital or relationship problems, or alcohol or substance abuse. EFR can also help employees with work/life issues from childcare and eldercare referrals to legal and financial assistance services.
YNHH cash account pension continues to earn 3.8%
Each November 30, an employee's Cash Account Pension Plan account balance is updated by an annual pay credit, plus an interest credit, which is entirely funded by Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The annual interest rate credited as of November 30, 2013, was 3.8 percent. As of December 1, the interest rate continues to be 3.8 percent for the coming plan year.
IRS maximum employees can contribute to 403(b) plan unchanged
For 2014, the Internal Revenue Service has announced that the annual maximum amount that employees can contribute to their 403(b) plan, also known as a tax-sheltered annuity, remains at 2013 levels. In pre-tax contributions, employees under the age of 50 may contribute up to $17,500 per year; employees 50 and older may contribute $23,000. The hospital matches up to a maximum of 3 percent of the employee's first 5 percent contribution of base pay.
Nurses invited to submit abstracts for research conference
YNHH nurses are invited to submit abstracts for poster presentation at the 6th annual nursing research conference on March 20 at Yale University's West Campus.
