Call for abstracts: Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference

The deadline for abstract submissions for the 2014 Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference is Friday, March 21. A submission form and guidelines are on the YNHHS Performance Management website: On the system intranet page, employees should click "departments" in the top navigation bar, then "Performance Management" on the list. All groups which submit an abstract are asked to display a poster of their work at the conference.

The conference will be Thursday, May 15, 9 am - 3 pm at the Omni Hotel, New Haven. For information, employees should contact Ella McGhee, administrative secretary, Performance Management, 688-4641 or ella.mcghee@ynhh.org.


Auxiliary sponsors hearing loss lecture

Employees with questions about their own or a loved one's hearing loss are invited to a free presentation, "Can You Hear Me Now?" at 6:30 pm Thursday, March 20, 55 Park St.

Elias Michaelides, MD, director, Hearing and Balance Center, YNHH, and assistant professor, Surgery-Otolaryngology, Yale School of Medicine, will discuss hearing loss causes, the latest treatments, and newest technology in hearing aids and implants. Retirewise workshop scheduled

YNHH livingwell is offering a two-session Retirewise workshop for employees and their significant others. MetLife financial advisors will discuss building a strong foundation, creating and protecting wealth, protecting a retirement income stream and making the most of assets. The workshop will be two Saturdays, March 22 and March 29, 9 am — 12:30 pm, in the YSC cafeteria special events area. At the conclusion of the two-day seminar, participants will be eligible for a free one-on-one consultation with MetLife financial consultants.


Youth Summer Volunteer Program deadline approaching

Employees with children 15 and older who are interested in the hospital's Youth Summer Volunteer Program and able to commit to the entire seven-week session, June 30 through Aug. 15, should visit the Volunteers section on the hospital website to learn more. The program is a great opportunity for students who want to learn more about health care, give back to their community and explore possible career paths.


Applications for engineering scholarships due

The hospital is accepting applications for engineering scholarships. YNHH employees whose children or grandchildren have been admitted as an undergraduate or are already enrolled at Yale, majoring in engineering or science, may apply for the Betty Ruth Hollander Engineering and Science Scholarship to cover annual tuition. The application period runs Monday, March 10 through Thursday, April 10. Employees interested in the scholarship should visit Human Resources on the YNHH Intranet, or email engineeringscholarship@ynhh.org. Questions may be directed to the scholarship hotline, 688-8222.


Spiritual Care announces Lenten schedule

York Street Campus: All services will be in the Chapel, first floor, South Pavilion. Catholic Masses will be celebrated each Wednesday during Lent at noon. On Palm Sunday, April 13, a Mass will be held at 9:30 am. On Good Friday, April 18, an ecumenical service will be held at noon. On Easter Sunday, April 20, a Mass will be held at 9:30 am and a Protestant service at 10:30 am. Saint Raphael Campus: All services will be in the Chapel, Main 1. Catholic Masses will be held at 7:30 am and noon Monday-Friday March 6 through April 16. A Vigil Mass will be held Saturday, April 12 at 4 pm. On Palm Sunday, April 13, a Mass will be held at 7:30 am. On Easter Sunday, April 20, a Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 am and a Protestant service at 10 am.
