York Street Campus chapel renovations under way

The York Street Campus chapel is closed for the summer for renovations and is scheduled to reopen in late August. During renovations the 12:45 pm Friday Muslim prayers and 9:30 am Sunday Masses will be held in the Max Taffel conference rooms, behind the cafeteria. The Reflection Room, Smilow Cancer Hospital fourth floor, will continue to be open to patients, families and staff.

Route 34, Exit 2 to close this summer

Exit 2 off Route 34 is scheduled to close this summer for construction, which may cause travel delays and affect commuters to the Yale-New Haven Hospital and Yale Physicians Building main entrances and parking facilities. Updated directions will be posted on the hospital website.

Blood drive at Saint Raphael Campus July 3

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Saint Raphael Campus, 7:30 am - 5:45 pm Thursday, July 3, in the cafeteria. Career exploration fair July 8

Employees are invited to a career exploration information fair, 9 am - 3 pm Tuesday, July 8, East Pavilion cafeteria special events area. Employees must present their YNHH badge for admission. Representatives from Albertus Magnus College,Gateway Community College, Goodwin College, New England College of Business and Finance, Saint Vincent's College, Southern Connecticut State University, Yale University School of Nursing and other schools will discuss healthcare career opportunities. Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds July 8

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, July 8, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Greg Ogrinc, MD, MS, associate professor of community and family medicine, associate professor of medicine and associate professor of the Dartmouth Institute, Geisel School of Medicine. Cash Account Pension Plan (CAPP) statements mailed

Annual CAPP statements were mailed to eligible employees' homes Wednesday, June 4. The personalized statement provides each employee's CAPP account balance as of Nov. 30, 2013 and a projected account balance to age 65. New emergency phones at SRC, Hunter Courtyard

New emergency blue phones have been installed in front of the Selina Lewis Building at the Saint Raphael Campus and in the Hunter Courtyard at the York Street Campus. Employees and visitors who need assistance can press the red button on the phones to be automatically connected to Yale-New Haven Hospital Protective Services, who can dispatch the nearest Protective Services officer. Blue phones are available at numerous locations at both campuses and other hospital facilities, and more will be added. Protective Services will also add numerous digital video cameras to further enhance safety for patients, visitors and staff.

A Positive Difference campaign enrollment opens

A Positive Difference is the employee giving program created three years ago to make it easy for employees to include YNHH in their annual charitable giving. Employees have a choice of five funds to support; may give $2 or more per paycheck through automatic payroll deduction; and can change the amount or fund they're giving to at any time through Employee Self Service. A mailing explaining A Positive Difference will be sent to employees' homes this month. Employees who enroll in the program by Tuesday, Sept. 30 will be eligible for a drawing for an iPad. Free lung cancer screening July 12

Smilow Cancer Hospital and the Yale Cancer Center Lung Screening and Nodule Program will offer a free lung cancer screening, 7:30 am - noon Saturday, July 12, at the Smilow Multi-Specialty Clinic, 4th floor. The screening includes a lung-capacity breathing test (spirometry), counseling and low-dose CT scan. The screening is for people ages 55 to 80; former smokers who quit within the past 15 years; or people with at least a 30-pack-a-year history of smoking, for example, one pack a day for 30 years, two packs for 15 years, three packs for 10 years.
