Heart Transplant and Mechanical Heart

jarvic2000Since 1984, the Heart Transplantation Program has performed more than 250 heart transplants to date. The Heart Transplantation Program’s multidisciplinary team approach to medicine is ideally suited to the complex problems associated with heart failure and transplantation. The Heart Transplantation Program provides advanced therapies for patients awaiting transplant including pharmacologic and device therapies.

Yale-New Haven Hospital has been the largest volume implantation center in the world for the “work horse” artificial heart device, Novacor. This devise successfully supported one of our patients for four years, until he was successfully transplanted.

Yale-New Haven is one of just a handful of centers implanting the new, miniaturized artificial heart device, Jarvik 2000, invented by artificial heart pioneer, Dr. Robert Jarvik.
