Chest Pain Center

The Chest Pain Center (CPC) is a dedicated unit for patients who arrive at the hospital complaining of chest pain and may be at risk for a heart attack. It is staffed 24/7 by a dedicated team trained to recognize and treat patients who are at a low- or moderate-risk for heart attack.

After an initial evaluation in the Emergency Department, patients are admitted to the CPC, where they are closely monitored. Patients are assessed by a nuclear cardiology physician for an optimal diagnostic study. If doctors have ruled out a heart attack, patients undergo a cardiac stress test to assess coronary artery disease.

The CPC is one of the few centers in the nation to use the most sophisticated technology, including nuclear perfusion imaging, for the evaluation of heart disease. The CPC has its own nuclear imaging machine right in the Emergency Department so patients can have a stress test throughout the day without having to be moved to another department. Each year, about 1,400 patients receive a stress test, making the CPC one of the busiest and more efficient centers in the region.
