Our Interventional Cardiology program is one of the safest and most critically responsive in the country. Performing almost 3,500 diagnostic catherizations in 2007 — almost 10 a day — Yale-New Haven Hospital has one of the lowest complication rates in the United States.
In 2007, it reported only a 0.4 percent incidence of major complications, according to the National Registry of Myocardial Infarction. It also reported no deaths within 24 hours and in the 24 hours following an interventional cardiac procedure. (See chart below)
It is also acclaimed for its quick response times for patients in need of emergency angioplasty. In 2007, patients had their balloon angioplasty performed within 73.5 minutes of arrival at the Emergency Department. In less than seven minutes, they had a diagnostic ECG. These response times far exceed even the best cardiac centers at other U.S. hospitals.
Procedures
Our interventional cardiologists perform all interventional procedures, including:
Since 1982, Yale-New Haven has consistently been on the cutting edge of new angioplasty techniques.
Facilities
The cardiac catheterization laboratory includes three adult interventional catheterization labs, including one combined vascular/cardiac lab, two electrophysiology labs and a pediatric catheterization lab with an extensive congenital heart program.
The Hospital ranks among the top five sites for door-to-balloon times in the National Registry Myocardial Infarction
