See how the heart performs its amazing job, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More »Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) affects the vessels that carry blood to the legs, arms, stomach or kidneys.
Assessing the condition
Yale-New Haven Hospital performs physiologic assessment of the amount of blood flow of the legs in patients with PAD. If a surgical or endovascular intervention is warranted, non-invasive testing, with ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, CT angiography or direct intravascular angiography are available.
Non-healing wound care
In many cases, for patients with critical limb ischemia or non-healing foot wounds, the method of revascularization of the affected limb is dependent on the patient’s risk factors, the location of the blockage and availability of the vein. In many cases, when open surgery would be ill advised or not technically possible, physicians use catheter-based techniques, which can result in significant improvement of blood flow.
