and many of the major search engines can walk you through a search for
a physician. Yahoo! enables you to search for doctors by name, specialty
or location. Information is provided by The Little Blue Book, a
national database of physicians and offices. The American Medical Association
also offers doctor finder sevices.
Hospital-based search
Many hospitals offer Web-based physician referral
services that allow you to locate participating physicians by the criteria
you choose: office location, type of physician or insurance accepted.
Checking credentials
The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) verifies the status of board certification of physicians of 24 member board. Go to www.certifieddoctor.org.
If looking for a specialist whose specialty is not included in the ABMS site, you can type the specialty into a search engine as the keyword
(such as plastic surgery).
