Giving to Yale-New Haven Hospital

Corporate sponsorship and foundation support

“We are extremely pleased with the impact Kohl's will be making at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. The children are the ultimate winners here.”
— Julie Gardner, VP of Marketing, Kohl's Department Stores, on the opening of a new playroom in June 2002

The $250,000 Kohl's playroom is a part of a $51.5 million construction and renovation of the hospital's South Pavilion. The playroom is specially designed for patients on the School-Age and Infant/Toddler units of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. The playroom offers a welcome respite to children staying in the hospital. There is a stage for performances, areas for reading, computer use and arts and crafts, with a special area for pillows and soft mats for infants.

With support from Kohl's Cares for KidsŪ Program, in 2006 Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital (YNHCH) will enhance its efforts to educate parents about child health and injury prevention through a series of community presentations and outreach activities. This program, Caring Parents Make Healthy Families, will be offered to parents in their own communities and in partnership with pediatricians and other health care professionals. Together with parents, Kohl's and YNHCH will ensure that Connecticut's children are safe, healthy and growing strong.

Ways to help

Corporate sponsorship of events and campaigns

Recent sponsorships helped support the new clinical program development fund, the Women's Heart Advantage public awareness campaign, breast cancer screenings, quality improvement programs, health lectures and much more.

Foundation support of clinical and department programs

Yale-New Haven welcomes the support of foundations and organizations that make possible important initiatives to improve patient care. Recent support has helped:

  • Child life programs nurture children during hospital stays
  • Clinical information systems, which provide much-needed state-of-the-art technology
  • Clinical pastoral education programs to train educators and pastoral caregivers in the provision of spiritual care to patients and families

Directed donations and special funds

A special fund provides an important and unique giving opportunity. The Development Office staff can provide donors with information on established and directed funds. Some examples include:

Facilities improvement
This fund allows Yale-New Haven to stay at the forefront of advanced medical care by providing the best possible physical comforts and facilities to our patients and staff. The hospital is now in the final year of its $51.5 million construction and renovation of the South Pavilion, which houses the new Kohl's playroom. Recent projects have included:

  • Renovation of four intensive care units
  • Expansion of emergency facilities
  • Renovation of pediatric facilities
  • Improvement of ambulatory care services

Endowed funds
These funds are used to support specific programs or ongoing hospital clinical programs. Endowed funds can support:

  • Named medical positions at the hospital, which help attract talented experts to the staff.
  • Named nursing positions that enhance the quality of patient care.
  • Resident scholarships to help educate future generations of medical leaders.
  • The hospital endowment, which supports the ongoing needs of the hospital and its many services.

Support for pediatric patients and family care
As any parent knows, caring for a child goes beyond the physical realm and extends to nurturing the child's emotional and psychological well being. Several funds have been launched to address the many needs of children, including:

  • Pediatric Play and Equipment Fund
  • Newborn Special Care Fund
  • Pi Beta Phi Children's Library
  • Aracy's Friends
  • Rebecca and Hillary Fund
  • Dances with Wood
  • Angel Fund
  • Arts, Education and Cultural Enrichment Fund
  • Fleece Fund
  • Tommy Fund
  • Toy Closet Program
  • Clinical Innovation Fund Fund for Program Development at the YNHH Day Care Center
  • Friends of Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital

Other opportunities for support

As one of the premier hospitals in the U.S., Yale-New Haven Hospital offers a wide range of programs and services that may be of interest to donors, including

Unrestricted donations

  • Advancing clinical treatments and procedures in areas such as cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, disease prevention, aging, organ transplantation and much more.
