The Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) passed a new policy in August 2011 to not allow residents and/fellows to have access to their educational expense reimbursement funds until mandatory training is completed.
For the medical staff, mandatory training is required to be completed prior to credentialing and thus admitting privileges. For the remainder of the hospital staff, if their mandatory training is not complete, they are put on suspension until this is done. The GMEC (including residents, fellows and program directors) created a new policy because they felt strongly that residents and fellows needed to be accountable for completing this training in a different manner. Please see the policy for more detailed information.
