Leaders in Open-Heart Surgery
Yale-New Haven Hospital has a long and distinguished history in open-heart surgery. Our program began in 1956, pioneered by William W.L. Glenn, MD. Many innovations in cardiothoracic surgery followed, including the introduction of coronary artery bypass grafting in 1969 and the first heart transplant in Connecticut in 1984. Since then, our surgeons have performed open heart surgery for more than 30,000 cardiac patients.
