An echocardiogram is a valuable tool that doctors use to diagnose and manage many forms of heart disease. This painless, non-invasive test uses sound waves to check the heart's structure, movements, and blood flow. It is an important tool for checking heart valves and tracking heart conditions over time.

The Echocardiography Laboratory at Yale-New Haven

The Echocardiography Laboratory at Yale-New Haven provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services including three-dimensional transthoracic and transesophageal studies - advanced techniques that allow doctors to see the heart in three dimensions -just as a surgeon would see it.

Echocardiograms are acquired on seven state of the art digital cardiac ultrasound machines by more than 15 certified sonographers. They are transmitted electronically to a digital archive, enabling rapid review by six board-certified cardiologists and comparison with images from prior studies dating back more than eight years.
