Safety Record for Cardiothoracic Procedures
At Yale-New Haven Hospital, we consistently measure the outcomes of our healthcare services to track our performance and to inspire us to be even better. Comparing measures like the number of procedures performed each year and the overall risk-adjusted mortality rate of the hospital, allows patients considering heart surgery and their physicians to make better informed decisions about which hospital will best meet their needs.
Key Operative Outcomes
Improving quality of care is a priority at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Releasing performance data is our way of informing our patients of how we are achieving that goal. We believe that transparency and transformation are necessary to enhancing patient safety and quality medical care. Just as quality decisions can only be made by transparency, improvement can only happen with measurement. One of the best ways to rate healthcare quality is through data collected by an independent source called the Society for Thoracic Surgeons (STS), which monitors the outcomes of patients undergoing procedures at our hospital and fairly compares those outcomes to the overall experiences reported in the registry.
