Dads need support, too
As much as dads are involved in a pregnancy, remember it is never possible for them to truly experience what the moms-to-be are going through. Pregnancy takes patience on the part of both moms- and dads-to-be.

Remember dad, your partner does not have the energy she usually does. Her body is changing and you are both having some anxiety about delivery and parenthood. Having a baby is a big responsibility and you may feel like you have to work harder than ever at your job to help support your family.

What can a dad do to help?
Lots! From grocery shopping to giving the mom-to-be a foot rub at night, there are many ways to help. Take walks together and encourage your partner to rest and put her feet up.

Attend childbirth classes together
Nothing will prepare you completely for the incredible process of birth, as well as awe and love that you will feel for the new baby. But taking classes together does help you understand the birth process better, what your role will be and the services offered at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Attend appointments together
Hearing your baby's heart beat for the first time or seeing your baby's profile on an ultrasound image are memorable moments you can share. Dads may also have concerns and questions to ask the health care provider.

Siblings get involved
Whether your children are two or 12, the birth of a new baby will affect everyone in your family. Why not have your child join our "Special Siblings" program? Call (203) 688-9355.
