Tours of maternity facilities

If you are taking childbirth classes at Yale-New Haven, or attending other childbirth classes in the area, a tour of our maternity facilities will be included. If not, you can arrange a tour of the beautiful Labor and Birth suites and rooms for new mothers by calling (203) 688-WELL (688-9355) or email.

How long will you be in the hospital?

Talk with your insurance company about the length of stay before you come to the hospital. An average vaginal birth usually involves a two-day hospital stay. A cesarean section birth averages about four days (96 hours).

Preadmission paperwork
You will receive a preadmission form in the mail. If you need help completing the form, call Yale-New Haven admitting staff at any of the following locations:

  • Children's Hospital Admitting Office,
    (203) 688-3331
  • Shoreline Pre-Admission Office, Guilford,
    (203) 453-7111

Or, you can request assistance via E-mail. The same form may also be filled out and submitted online.

Payment arrangements
It's best to work out the details of how you will pay for your hospital stay before your due date. Room charges include the nursing care you will receive, meals and bedside supplies. You will receive two hospital bills--one for you, and one for your baby, in addition to any bills from your health care providers.

If you have any questions about hospital charges or concern about paying your bill, please call our Admitting Office at (203) 688-3331 or one of the satellite locations listed above.

Patient/Family Education Form
When you come to Yale-New Haven to have your baby, you will be given a Patient/Family Education Form that asks what you'd like to learn in the hospital about baby care, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, care of yourself, cesarean sections, becoming a new mom or community resources. If you would like a copy of the Patient/Family Education Form before admission, please call (203) 688-WELL (688-9355) or E-mail.
