Greenwich Hospital Recognized as Leader in Stroke Care

Tuesday, March 5, 2019

Greenwich, CT (March 5, 2019) – Greenwich Hospital’s high-quality stroke care program has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for primary stroke centers.

“Often considered a disease that only affects older adults, the recent tragic death of a 52-year-old actor from a massive stroke demonstrates that stroke can happen at any age,” said Norman Roth, Greenwich Hospital’s president and chief executive officer. “We provide a higher standard of stroke care by adhering to specific treatment guidelines that allow us to administer medication in time to stop further damage to the brain and increase the chances for a healthy recovery.”

Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of adult disability, reports the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, which estimates that someone dies of a stroke every four minutes. A stroke occurs when a clot or a rupture prevents blood flow to the brain.

Greenwich Hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review by Joint Commission experts, who evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.
