A light and a prayer

With Hanukkah starting in November this year, menorah lightings on both campuses kicked off the holiday season at YNHH. Reciting a prayer after lighting the Saint Raphael Campus menorah were (l-r): Kendall Palladino, manager, and N. Auxiliary celebrates 27th annual York Street Campus tree lighting

Keira Mortenson, 3, was the guest of honor at the York Street Campus tree lighting. With a flick of her special wand, the former Pediatric Intensive Care Unit patient illuminated the trees and dazzled the crowd in the Hunter Courtyard. Keira got a little help from her proud mom, Amanda Rasile, and Richard D'Aquila, president and COO.


It's a wand-erful life

Malia Stewart of New Haven, formerly a patient on the Saint Raphael Campus, helped the YNHH Auxiliary light the Christmas tree on the Saint Raphael Campus. The 4-year-old used the hospital's magic wand to help Richard D'Aquila, president and COO, light the tree that graced the SRC lobby throughout the holidays.


Cart full of fun

Judi Duffy, MRI technologist, Diagnostic Radiology; and Dave Facchini, supervisor, Outpatient Radiology, loaded up a cart full of toys for young patients. The department, along with physicians and staff with Yale Diagnostic Radiology, continued a long tradition of donating toys to the YNHH Toy Closet. This year, they also donated $470 raised through a raffle.


Happily hard at work

Food and Nutrition Services staff worked extra hard to make the holiday coffees special for employees, preparing delectable treats, helping to serve and, like this group, restocking supplies throughout the busy events. Bringing a big dose of the holiday spirit to their work were (l-r): Brittany Brooks, food services associate; Troy Jackson, retail manager; and Bridget Kanu, cashier.

Sound Tigers score big with hospitalized youngsters

Young patients at the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital campus at Bridgeport Hospital received a holiday visit from members of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers hockey team. From the left, players Matt Lowry, Sean Wiles and Scooter Vaughn presented Sebastian Medina, 8, of Bridgeport, with a teddy bear. At right are Amy Huff, Child Life specialist, YNHCH Bridgeport campus, and Nicole Chiravuri of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary, which coordinates toy donations to the hospital.


A real cut-up

Alicia Cimino, left, enjoyed a laugh with her colleagues Donna Fico, center, and Jody Criscuolo while wrapping gifts for YNHH patients in need. All three medical technologists joined their co-workers in Laboratory Medicine on both campuses in raising over $3,000 to buy gifts to brighten the holidays for families.


Like deer in headlights

Staff in the Smilow Cancer Care Center in Waterbury were all ready for Santa when he visited with plates of cookies direct from New Haven. Delighted recipients included (l-r): Marek Kolodziej, PharmD, clinical pharmacist; Holly Bemonte, RN, clinical nurse; Nan Bergamo, RN, nurse coordinator; and Arthur Lemay, executive director, Smilow Cancer Network, who went on to deliver more cookies to the Smilow Care Centers in Sharon and Torrington.


Almost midnight snack

It wasn't quite midnight, but that didn't stop these Heart and Vascular Center nurses from sampling a wide variety of goodies at the nighttime holiday coffee on the YSC. From the left are Roderick Serrano, RN; Annabel Chi-Esmero, RN; Jannette Campos, RN; and Louchile Diorico, RN.


Warm welcome

YNHH President and COO Richard D'Aquila, and CEO Marna P. Borgstrom, second from right, joined other senior hospital leaders in warmly welcoming employees to the holiday coffees. It was all hands on deck and deck the halls at the holiday party as managers prepared to serve employees at Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. Employees really committed to kits for Columbus House

The YNHH Mutual Respect Committee's fall community service project, Commit to a Kit, benefited clients of Columbus House who are moving into permanent housing. Employees created more than 300 kits of new household items and members of the Mutual Respect Committee delivered them to Columbus House. The day Finance South looked like Walmart

Each year, many of the employees who work in Finance South participate in the "mitten project" for children and families who are clients of ‘r kids Family Center in New Haven. Employees pick a pink or blue mitten that has information about a child, buy the gift and wrap it for delivery to the agency that works intensively with needy families and their children. Yale-New Haven Hospital is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine. Yale-New Haven was founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826.
