With help of HOME program, SRC employee says "home sweet home"

Geraldine Boone, clinical technician, Total Bone and Joint Center, is the first employee on the Saint Raphael Campus to take advantage of the hospital's employee benefit: the HOME — Home Ownership Made Easier — Program. She joins more than 100 other employees who have bought their first homes through the program.

Launched in 2006, YNHH's HOME Program provides eligible full- and part-time employees with up to $10,000 in forgivable five-year loans, other incentives and home-buying support, when they purchase a home in New Haven. The hospital pays down the amount of the loan if the employee continues to work at YNHH and live in the home for at least five years. In addition, employees who purchase a home in one of four New Haven neighborhoods — the Hill, Dwight, West River and City Point — are eligible for a $200-a-month mortgage subsidy for the first two years of their home ownership.

Boone, her husband and their three children, ages 9 - 16, bought their New Haven home in October. Since then, they've been working on the house "from the top down," said Boone. "Our kids love the house and the yard."

For more information about eligibility, employees should go to the HR page on the YNHH intranet where they will find additional information and an application. They may also call the Benefits Office at 688-2401 with questions.
