Outpatient Scheduling
All exams require a physician's order, and the physician's office or the patient will need to fax the order to the scheduling office before the appointment can be scheduled. To schedule the appointment, the scheduler will need to know:

Radiology Direct Patient CaregiversPhysicians Radiologists are physicians who specialize in the field of radiology. They perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, interpret images and consult with other physicians involved in patient care. They are medical doctors who are also certified by the American College of Radiology. Radiographers/Technologists Radiographers and technologists are responsible for performing radiology procedures, such as chest and other routine radiography, CT (Cat) scan, nuclear medicine procedures, MRI scans, ultrasound examinations and mammography. Radiographers and technologists at YNHH are nationally certified by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists. Many are also licensed by the state of Connecticut. Additionally, our Breast Imaging Center is fully accredited by the FDA, having met all Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements. Nurses Radiology nurses participate in interventional radiology procedures, administer IV medications and contrast agents and are responsible for patient assessment and education. Radiology nurses at YNHH are experienced in critical care, are nationally licensed and licensed by the state of Connecticut and hold advanced degrees in their field. Our nurses are certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) to ensure optimal patient care. Patient Transportation Diagnostic Radiology Patient Transport provides service to patients traveling to and from the radiology department. Although primarily used by patients who have been admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Transport Service is dedicated to assisting patients and their family members. The Service operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week and averages more than 140,000 transports/year. As an integral member of the Yale-New Haven Hospital healthcare team, our mission is to deliver safe, efficient and professional transportation to our patients, providing outstanding customer service and excellent patient care.
