What to do with fevers

You do not have to be afraid of a fever. A fever means the body is doing its job by fighting germs.

Parents should call the doctor:

  • When infants or toddlers have a fever over 100 degrees or a fever keeps coming back.
  • When older children have a fever over 103 degrees, or it keeps coming back.

What to do when you have a fever:

  • Drink plenty of liquids.
  • Use medicine with acetaminophen (like Tylenol®).
  • Staying home from school. This helps you get better faster and prevents others from getting sick.
  • Stay away from aspirin products.
  • Avoid cold water baths or alcohol body rubs.

Activity
Have an adult take check your temperature and teach you to read the thermometer.
