From the Nurse's Desk
Do you keep your teeth safe?
Do you think about your teeth when you play contact sports?
Teeth can be knocked out or they can break. Many players wear mouth
guards to protect their teeth. If a tooth gets injured, knowing what to
do can be very important...maybe even save your tooth.
If you break a tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water. Put ice on the
skin over the injured area. If you can find the broken pieces of tooth,
save them. Now, go to a dentist right away.
If you knock out a tooth, find the tooth and rinse it in tap water.
Try to put it back in the socket and hold it in place until you can get
to a dentist or the hospital. If you can not put it back in your mouth,
put the tooth in a clean container of cool water.
Your teeth need care, just like the rest of your body. Treat them well
and they will always be there when you smile.
Activity
Talk to your parents about getting a mouth guard at the drugstore or sports
store.
