The Yale Endo-Laparoscopic Center will open on Wednesday, April 10, 1996. Endo-laparoscopic surgery is one of the most innovative and sophisticated surgical techniques available today.
The center focuses on the development, education and clinical practices of procedures performed with this minimally invasive surgery. Procedures using laparoscopic surgery require shorter hospital stays, produce faster at-home recovery periods and are more cost-effective than traditional surgery.
The Yale Endo-Laparoscopic Center is a joint program of the department of surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Ronald C. Merrell, chairman and chief of surgery, and Dr. James C. Rosser, Jr., assistant professor of surgery and director of the endo-laparoscopic program, will describe surgical techniques and demonstrate state-of-the-art educational facilities for surgeons and patients.
Reporters may preview the new Yale Endo-Laparoscopic Center at 1:15 p.m. with Drs. Merrell and Rosser.
- Classroom
- See an interactive demonstration of CD-ROM education to train practicing surgeons in new techniques. This classroom features 20 multimedia personal computers, all controlled from a unique command module that uses two-way communications for individual tutorials.
- Inanimate Laboratory
- See the drills surgeons perform to develop their skills in laparoscopic surgery techniques. In addition a demonstration will showcase the telemedicine, remote-controlled surgery capability involving a new Robotic Arm.
- Multimedia Patient Information Laboratory
