Yale-New Haven Hospital was honored Wednesday night by Working Mother magazine as one of the nation's 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers at a gala celebration dinner at the Grand Hyatt in New York.

"The balancing act that is performed each day by working mothers is remarkable," said Lisa Benenson, editor-in-chief of Working Mother magazine, in making the award presentations. "The future holds great things and unlimited promise for working mothers as these honored companies on this year's Best 100 list understand the importance of adopting to the changes in the workplace. We know people have a life outside of the office, and striking a balance between the two is now more challenging than ever."

Yale-New Haven Hospital was selected as one of the Best 100 Companies by Working Mother magazine having demonstrated creative and proactive ways to meet the challenges faced by working parents. Yale-New Haven Hospital was the only Connecticut hospital to be selected for this honor, and one of only a handful of Connecticut-based companies to be so honored.

"We're very proud that Working Mother magazine has recognized Yale-New Haven Hospital as one of the best places to work," said Joseph A. Zaccagnino, president and CEO. "Yale-New Haven Hospital has demonstrated that for women with challenging careers, we place a very high value on recognizing and supporting the needs of working parents. Our goal is to set the standard for ongoing movement toward better benefits, family-friendly policies and a healthier and happier workforce. Providing programs like the Employee Assistance Program, Day Care Center and the Dependent Tuition Program shows that Yale-New Haven Hospital has found meaningful ways to accommodate our employees' work/life needs."

Working Mother magazine based their selection on five criteria: child care, leave for new parents, flexible work arrangements, work/life benefits such as elder care and adoption assistance and opportunities for women to advance. In addition, editors looked at a range of supportive company offerings and policies, including health insurance premiums, availability of time off to care for sick children, mentoring programs and extras such as on-site gyms and other conveniences.
