Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Kohl's Department Stores, Inc, will unveil architect's renderings of the soon-to-be renovated "Kohl's Playroom" at a check presentation and reception at 12 noon on Thursday, June 28.

The ceremony and unveiling will take place in the lobby of the Children's Hospital. Representatives from Kohl's, in conjunction with their "Kohl's Cares For Kids" program, will present a check for the first installment of their $250,000 pledge to officially rename the Children's Hospital playroom the "Kohl's Playroom." Yale-New Haven Hospital President and CEO Joseph A. Zaccagnino and Kevin Bichler, one of two Connecticut district managers of Kohl's Department Stores, will speak at the presentation.

"We are extremely pleased that Kohl's Department Stores has chosen Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital as one of the seven children's hospitals in the United States to whom it will make a multi-year charitable gift," said Joseph A. Zaccagnino. "Renovation of the Children's Hospital playroom will ensure that Yale-New Haven continues to meet the health care needs of our pediatric patients in a nurturing and supportive environment."

The official opening of the "Kohl's Playroom" is expected in June 2002. Kohl's is one of the most prominent corporate sponsor's of the South Pavilion renovation project, part of a $51.5 million construction and renovation project that once completed, will enhance and expand the infrastructure, renovate four intensive care units, four patient care units and four pediatric units, as well as improve family waiting areas, diagnostic imaging and operating rooms.

"The partnership and relationship we have with Kohl's will enable the Child Life section here at Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital to move forward and provide an even better environment for both our pediatric patients and their families," said Ellen Good, child life manager for Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital. "We are very grateful for Kohl's generosity and what it means to the Child Life program."

The Children's Hospital program is one of several facets of the "Kohl's Cares for Kids" program, launched in July 2000. In addition to raising funds for children's hospitals, the "Kohl's Cares for Kids" program features fundraising gift cards for local schools and nonprofit youth groups, a scholarship program to recognize kids who contribute in special ways to their local communities and an employee volunteer program to encourage volunteerism to benefit local nonprofit organizations.

Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl's is a family-focused, value-oriented specialty department store with 354 stores in 28 states, including 12 stores located throughout Connecticut.
