NEW HAVEN — Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has joined the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) in participating in the Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program, which works to connect and partner civilian corporations and companies, as well as local government agencies, with America's youth following the completion of their military commitment.
As part of the enlistment process, Army applicants select their military occupational specialties and are given an opportunity to select a job with a PaYS partner. The PaYS partner promises to interview the soldier for his selected position as long as the soldier receives an honorable discharge after one enlistment, is otherwise qualified, and a job vacancy exists.
Representatives of the USAREC visited YNHH today to finalize and sign the agreement establishing Yale-New Haven as an official Army PaYS partner.
"We are honored to be the first major hospital in the Northeast to partner with the United States Army and their youth success program," said Marna P. Borgstrom, president and CEO, Yale-New Haven Hospital. "The core values that the Army instills -loyalty, duty, respect, service, honor and integrity, form the foundation on which we strive to provide the best health care to our patients and their families."
The intent of the PaYS program is to provide an additional recruiting incentive to increase the Army's ability to man its force. This program fortifies the Army's efforts to partner with the American business community and re-connect the Army to the country. Additionally, it provides employment opportunities with leading employers using skills learned in the Army. PaYS partners have access to a pool of potential new employees with values, experience, maturity, discipline and other qualities that make them highly coveted.
"Adding Yale-New Haven Hospital to our ever-growing list of corporate partners enables our recruiting force to offer applicants quality post-Army employment opportunities with one of the best hospitals in the United States," said Brig. Gen. Joseph Anderson, Deputy Commanding General for the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. "Each year the Army trains thousands of young men and women in a variety of medical specialty skills the healthcare industry needs. This partnership is just one way we can help ensure our soldiers continue to achieve success after leaving the Army."
Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 944-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine. Yale-New Haven was founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826 and today, the hospital complex includes Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, with a combined medical staff of about 3,400 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties.
