Shoreline Medical Center opens third annual art show

Art Place on the ShorelineYNH Shoreline Medical Center opens Exhibit III at Art Place on the Shoreline. This exhibit, on display in the medical center’s hallways and public spaces through September, features sculpture, oil paintings and photography from eight area artists.   • Three operating rooms
  • Two endoscopy suites
  • Eleven-bed Stage 1 post-anesthesia recovery area
  • Stage 2 recovery/observation area with recliners
  • Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Examples of procedures/surgeries performed at the center: breast biopsy, minor gynecological procedures, tubal ligation, hernia repair, knee arthroscopy, carpal tunnel, shoulder arthroscopy, bunionectomy, hammer toe surgery, cosmetic surgery, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, liver biopsies.

Diagnostic Radiology, (203) 453-7200

Mammography: Digital mammography is shown to decrease the need to repeat images due to processing artifacts, provide better resolution for reading images and expose the patient to less radiation. In addition, digital mammography has computer-aided detection for spotting abnormalities.

New Evening Hours: Mammography hours have been expanded to include one evening per week: On Monday, the center will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Regular hours for mammography services are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call (203) 453-7272 for an appointment.

MRI: A 1.5 Tesla horizon short bore unit is in use, which many find to be less claustrophobic because of its wider and shorter bore (opening). This imaging machine also has a faster scan time and superior image quality.

  • Emergency care for all ages
  • Eight exam rooms
  • The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The YNHSMC Emergency Department can triage and care for adults and children with emergency illnesses or injuries. This department is supported by the on-site services of Diagnostic Radiology and Laboratory Medicine. Patients requiring hospitalization or a specialty consultation will be transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital or another area hospital. Patients in need of an acute psychiatric consultation or evaluation of an advanced pregnancy should go directly to a hospital.

Onsite laboratory testing allows for rapid access to test results for Shoreline physicians and patients.

  • Individualized nutrition counseling by registered dietitians
  • Personalized eating plans
  • Follow-up appointments available for support and reinforcement needed to make permanent lifestyle changes
  • Community outreach, including participation in health fairs and lectures.

The YNHSMC Nutrition Center offers individualized nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian to help people design a diet specific to their needs. Follow-up appointments provide the support and reinforcement needed to bring about permanent and healthy lifestyle changes.

Anatomic Pathology Services, (203) 453-7120

  • Managed by Yale Pathology Labs
  • Diagnostic services for patients and physicians of the Shoreline Medical Center.
  • Board-certified pathologist available on-site for immediate intraoperative consultations (frozen sections)
  • Board-certified cytotechnologist to perform on-site FNA adequacies for diagnostic radiology
  • Staff supported by Yale Pathology Labs of the Yale School of Medicine, the most comprehensive diagnostic service in the area
  • Hours: 8 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

This service features expedited processing and interpretation, enabling physicians to make a diagnosis or evaluation quickly. For more information about this service, contact the laboratory manager, Kevin Schofield, BS, CT (ASCP).
