The following policies guide us in managing this site:
Purpose
This site is intended for communication of health
information with broad appeal to the general public, Yale-New Haven Hospital
patients and other health care consumers. Authors of content work with
the site's editor to ensure the content supports the hospital's vision
guiding site development.
The information conveyed on this site is intended to supplement a person's general knowledge and is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment for specific medical conditions. Site visitors are advised to seek prompt medical care for any specific health issues and consult a physician before starting a new fitness regimen.
Submission of materials
All materials developed for the
site are submitted to the site editor for review and approval prior to
posting on www.ynhh.org. Links
to sites outside the YNHH Web site are allowed if they contribute to
the user's understanding of the topic and the destination content is
primarily of educational nature. The editor is made aware of the source
of the information and each graphic, photograph or piece of art to
be posted and requires the source to be stated in the material if outside
Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Copyright
Written permission has been obtained from the
copyright holder to post any information or graphic material for which
Yale-New Haven Hospital does not possess copyright or a license to use.
Clinical material
All clinical material is prepared in
a format suitable for the general health care consumer. Clinical material
that is educational in nature and highlights the services available at
Yale-New Haven Hospital will be posted. Specific diagnostic and treatment
advice is generally not included, with the exception of information provided
within the strictly controlled areas of Nurse Advice and the Expert Forums.
For information on the strict protocols under which these areas operate,
contact the site editor.
Review
All material to be posted on www.ynhh.org is reviewed by the site
editor. In addition, clinical material must be reviewed by the
appropriate medical director. If an appropriate medical director
for the content in question cannot be identified, the site editor
seeks out an appropriate physician specialist to perform the review
and that doctor's name is listed at the bottom of the page as the
reviewer.
Privacy policy
The site maintains policies concerning the use
of information gathered from site visitors. Any page designed to gather
information about individuals must link to the privacy
policy.
Required information
With very limited exceptions for functionality,
every page of the site carries the official YNHH logo indicating the
information is being provided by Yale-New Haven Hospital, a feedback
mechanism or contact point for obtaining further information and the
date on which the page was last revised or updated.
Page template
To facilitate site navigation and the presence
of appropriate legal information, most content appears within the official
page template. Exceptions are limited and for the purpose of functionality.
Exceptions to the use of the official page template are at the discretion
of the site editor.
Accessibility
This site strives to be accessible to as
many of its identified target audience as feasible within the site's
financial constraints. Care has been taken to provide ALT tags where
graphics are used, particularly those that serve as hyperlinks. This
assists those browsing without graphics and those who employ special
adaptive browsing software.
Browser compatibility
Content is tested for quality of
presentation on the most commonly used versions of America Online, Netscape
and Internet Explorer browsers, again to improve accessibility.
Adoption of new technology/features
Any new technology,
coding, feature, etc., must be thought to be accessible by 90 percent
of the site's users before it can be employed.
Referring links
Where appropriate, links are provided
on this site to material outside of Yale-New Haven Hospital's control.
In general, the organizations to which we link are nonprofit or governmental
organizations. In limited cases, we may link to a commercial site if
it offers information we believe is not available in a comparable fashion
on a .edu, .org or .gov site, or if its omission would seem to do a disservice
to site visitors. The links themselves should clearly indicate the destination
organization. Yale-New Haven Hospital includes such links for the convenience
of the user, but does not control or take responsibility for their
content. In areas where the editor believes the user may be confused
as to ownership/authorship, a disclaimer will be posted to make the
relationship clear. The YNHH site does not accept advertising. Users are invited to provide feedback concerning
the quality of the material found when following a link off the Yale-New
