Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Services

Adult outpatient psychiatric services offered by Yale-New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus include:

Partial Hospitalization Program
Intensive Outpatient Program

As the highest level of care offered outside of inpatient or residential care, the Partial Hospital Program (PHP) provides daily structure for mental health patients with a variety of diagnoses, five days a week, for four and a half hours a day. A similar program called the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) meets three times per week, for four and a half hours a day.

The Partial Hospital Program offers separate tracks for patients with psychiatric illness, substance abuse issues or both.

Both programs offer group-based counseling. Group sessions, staffed by master's degree-level clinicians, focus on anger management, social skills, art therapy, psychotherapy and more. The PHP/IOP program is fully licensed and accepts referrals. The programs are conducted at Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Services (AOP), 1294 Chapel St., New Haven. Phone: 203.784.8750

Continuing Care Clinic (CCC)

Yale-New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus offers a full range of outpatient services in its Continuing Care Clinic. Clients may "step down" from Partial Hospital Program/Intensive Outpatient Program services and attend up to two group therapy sessions per week. Weekly groups are also offered, including psychotherapy, psychodrama, art therapy, social skills and others. These have varying lengths of stay to provide follow-up treatment for long- and short-term needs. Outpatient group treatment for relapse prevention and co-occurring disorders is also available. Group treatment is available by referral, and most insurances/entitlements will cover these services. Medication management services are available for those referred from other programs and services at Yale-New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus. Our psychiatrists and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) follow clients' psychiatric medication needs in coordination with other hospital staffs, including inpatient Psychiatry, the Partial Hospital Program/Intensive Outpatient Program, the Primary Care Clinic, Haelen Center and other inhouse clinics. CCC hours are 8:30 am-5 pm, M-F. For group therapy or medication clinic referrals, call 203.784.8700.
