About the project

As Yale-New Haven Hospital celebrates its 175th anniversary, we invite all who have passed through our doors to share stories, poems or other creative writings that portray examples of extraordinary courage and caring experienced at Yale-New Haven. We also welcome stories that provide historical insights about life and work at Yale-New Haven or its predecessor organizations Grace-New Haven Hospital, New Haven Hospital and the General Hospital Society of Connecticut

For 175 years, Yale-New Haven Hospital has played an integral role in the lives of thousands of men, women and children. The voices and faces of these individuals, from the past and the present, echo at Yale-New Haven, reflecting some of the most important moments in people's lives.

The doors of the hospital are always open and have been since 1826. Each day, 10,000 people walk through the cultural crossroads that is Yale-New Haven Hospital. No race, age, culture or class is exempt from its services.

Throughout 2001, Yale-New Haven Hospital will salute its partners in healing—the patients, families, caregivers and all the communitites of Connecticut who have realized, built and carried on the important business of caregiving, which is what Yale-New Haven Hospital is all about.

Lend your voice to the hospital's anniversary celebrations by sharing your own experiences of caring and courage at Yale-New Haven.

		A story of caring you experienced or observed
		A story of incredible courage in the face of a difficult illness
		A story about the courage to heal
		How a stranger—a volunteer, a nurse, another patient—cared enough to help you or a family member through a difficult hospital stay.
		How generations of your family have been born or cared for here, and what that means to you
		Your personal memories of the hospital's history

How entries will be used
Submissions to Voices from Yale-New Haven may be printed in hospital publications, published in local newspapers or broadcast on radio stations and some will be showcased during the hospital's 175th anniversary celebrations, including:

		Publication on this Web site
		Public readings during special anniversary celebratory events
		Inclusion in the YNHH display about the hospital's history
		Publication in hospital newsletters
		Compiled for the hospital archives

Stories should be no more than one page in length and typewritten, if possible. Please include your name, address, phone number and E-mail address if you have one. You may also request anonymity. While all submissions to Voices from Yale-New Haven will become the property of the hospital and will not be returned, we intend to make every effort to publish as many submissions as possible. If your submission is selected for publication or broadcast, we will contact you at the address or phone number provided.

Hospital-related photos are also welcome and may be donated to the YNHH archives.

The deadline for receipt of entries has been extended to December 31, 2002.
