A strong connection
My first visit to Grace New
Haven Hospital was when I was born in November of 1946. My mother was
part of what was called "rooming in", which allowed newborns
to be in the same room with their mothers. For several years I would come
to the hospital to see Dr. Jackson who would perform a series of psychological
tests. I have a very fond remembrance of Dr. Jackson to this day. I recall
that during one session Dr. Jackson asked me to say as many words as I
could in a one minute period of time. When I left her office I decided
that I was going to do much better the next year so I memorized a list
of words. It's almost 50 years later and I can still remember the list.
She never asked me the following year.
The next time I had an overnight
stay at the hospital was on June 25, 2001 when I underwent a lumpectomy
for breast cancer. Again, my experience was a positive one. Although it
is now called Yale-New Haven Hospital, I still feel a strong connection
to the facility.
